N-Core
In the third year of my University course (Sep 2008 to May 2009), I was tasked with the creation and production of a brand new publication. I would identify a target audience, research production and printing costs as if it were a real publication. I would then source and write all articles from scratch, identifying primary interview targets and obtaining pictures from the appropriate sources along the way.
The end result was N-Core, a Nintendo-based monthly gaming magazine which sought to unite the frequently warring sides of casual and hardcore gamer into one. The effectiveness of that mission is open to interpretation, but the final product was very pleasing to me and here you can check out all 56 pages for yourself.
A little artistic license has been used to produce previews and reviews – i.e. the titles were already out and had been for a while – but PR companies are impossible to get hold of when you’re “just” a student. An exhausting process, but great fun and really pleased with final results. Would I do it over again? Maybe one day. Watch this space…
